Hello Jim,
I want to tell you about my son Seth. I consider Seth to be a miracle
child.
Seth was born in 1990 with an abdominal wall defect called gastroschisis.
He lost the majority of his small bowel to gangrene at birth. He lost
all of his ileum due to this defect. I was told to prepare for the
worse. He spent the first 2 months of his life in a hospital.
In 1993, Seth had the Bianchi procedure or also referred to as bowel
lengthening. This surgery gave Seth less than 2 feet of small bowel.
Six months later, he was able to discontinue any and all nutritional
feedings and sustain life by oral feedings.
Today, Seth is a normal and healthy young child who excels at many
things. He often achieves the honor roll at his school. He is active in
his church, where he often cantors for the school Masses. He and his
classmate, Sara, won 1st place at the school's science fair and went on
to place 4th in the city/county science fair. Seth was nominated for the
Junior National Young Leaders Conference Congressional Youth Leadership
Conference held in Washington, D.C.
I have written two WebPages about Seth.
I hope you do not mind, but here are two pictures of Seth.
