of her small bowel in a big knot on the outside of her abdomen in a sac
Little Sarah was only an hour and a half old when the Doctors performed
the first surgery on her. They put her small bowl back in and gave her
an ostomy.
Like many other babies born with a short bowel she was put
on TPN. On Jan. 4, 2002 the doctors went back in and tried to reconnect
her bowel. They were successful but they also gave her a g-tube and we
were told not to give her anything by mouth.
Since then we are dealing with the signs of the TPN from the liver
disease and the GI bleeds and the weekly at home nursing visits. We
have also seen our share of line infections.
But Sarah beat the odds and is now 9 months old pretty good for a
baby that was only going to live past 72 hours. We are currently on the
list for liver and small bowel at the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh,
PA
