My name is Ellen and I am 61. My medical problems started
in 1990 when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The result was a
complete hysterectomy and 7 treatments of chemotherapy which left me
feeling like a wet mop. At the time my children were 12, 10, and 9. My
fear was not to be there for them to grow up and be responsible adults.
God answered my wish as they are now responsible adults.
I stayed in remission and continued to have my blood checked (CA125). Then
in 1993, March, the CA125 level increased and a cat scan, according to the
Dr., revealed possible tumors in my bowels. A surgery was performed but
nothing was found and the CA125 went back to normal. I was warned I might
have adhesions. Well, in July my bowels could not pass anything through
and I was admitted for dehydration. I ended up with having exploratory
surgery as they could not determine what was going on. That surgery
resulted in a small bowel by-pass as the adhesions completly obstructed
the small bowel. I have lost 90% of active good bowel.
Through the years since then life has been an experiment. I now deal with
a diet extremely low in fat, low fiber, no sweeteners (Kool-aid, Gatorade,
and soda pop: these cause extreme diarrhea), no raw veggies and no fruits
high in sugar. I have been in ER about 20-30 times for bowel obstruction
and they put me on morphine to relieve the pain for the obstruction to
pass. I went from 120 lbs down to 83 at one time but with continued
experiences with different food supplements I have brought my weight up to
106 lbs. (what a joy)
I started out with Lipisorb which helped but not that much as I wasn't
gaining weight. In 1997 I received a feeding tube to try to see if I would
respond nutritionally. I switched to the VITAL food supplement and this
helped immensly.
The problems I'm experiencing now are osterporosis (extreme) and just
recently found out that I'm not absorbing Vit D which is absoluttely
necessary for calcium absorption. I have tried extra Vit D pills and then
taken injections but for some reason my body is rejecting the Vit D. Right
now I'm trying to absorb it from the sun as 80% of Vit D is absorbed
through the skin.
I've had a hard time trying to find doctors willing to help me or advise
me as to where I may go for help. Their response to me was they don't know
of anyone with my problem. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Its
sometimes hard not to panic so if anyone can advise me of any other
options I could try please do. Thank you for reading my story and also the
reassurance of knowing I'm not alone in dealing with these medical
problems. |
