On march 5th Jeanette and Brian Had a healthy baby boy 5.6oz. on march
9th he was diagnosed with {NEC} Necrotizing Enterocolitis that night he
was taken in for surgery when they came out they said he didn't have a
chance it looked as if the infection had already taken over all of his
intestines
It looked as if all his intestines were dead they started treatment 3
antibiotics ventilator IV's and much more.. on the 13th I was given a call
by baby Brian's doctor telling me we need to come in to talk about what we
were going to do with my son so we went to the hospital and we were given
3 choices first being take him off every thing and let him go.
second was go back to surgery for a second look if any bowel had survived
take out the dead but after the first surgery they really didn't think any
bowel had recovered
third was go in for a second look and if all dead leave everything as is
and let him go we chose the second not even a half hour had went by well
he was in surgery and the Doc came out amazed my son has all of his lg
intestines and 28cm of small and now he is still fighting.
on march 16th the surgeon went in and put two drains in his abdomen one on
each side to drain the fluid in the open space and to drain any bad fluid
still in his abdomen Yesterday it really hit me what all is going on my
son has such a fight ahead because now if he makes it past NEC and
there's a lot more to his fight with NEC
he has what is called short-bowel syndrome and that a battle all on it's
own, we also have to worry about infection and kidney failure and so much
more I need help, I need to know how when and what's the first thing I
need to do to get my son on the waiting list for liver and small bowel
transplant.
I need to talk with others who know more about this are know someone who
has been through this Please keep my son and my family in your prayers
UPDATE FOR BRIAN. 09/30/02
Hi Jim it's me Jeanette Brian's mom, sorry I haven't wrote we've had a
lot of changes we have moved. Well Brian is doing fantastic so far he
still is home we've been in and out of the hospital a few times but he
still is amazing every one. Most doctors are saying there is no way Brian
is going to need the transplant and that's what we are all praying for,
that he don't need the transplant I want to thank everyone and let them
know how much prayer works
love always Brian JR. and family
