Help with your computer(?)
And Maybe There is Something We Can Do About Spam!

Some of you have been asking me about how to do this and that with your computer. The first computer I had anything to do with was programmed with a patch board and switches, and had a room all it's own. Let me say here and now that although I have seen and touched, in person, that type of computer (yes I am older than you are). I did not actually work with it, my uncle was a supervisor with a large company and he would take me with him at night and I would get to see how it worked.

My first personal  computer (age of 12) was a home built job and worked off relays, tubes and switches. Yes, I built it and yes, it worked, sort of, I guess you might say it was a great adding machine.
At the age of 16 I did have (my own company) the opportunity to build what was then fancy scoreboards for ball games. The kind with lights that done everything for football, baseball and basketball games.

I made my living in radio and television, doing everything from operations,  production, and engineering, to building automation systems for stations.

I at one time, done a limited amount of "Help Desk" consulting, and I still have a setup here at home that includes DSL (plus one dialup for checking connections), programmed Routers, Hub, one server and 6 workstations. I have the computers networked and use everything from windows 95 to NT and Linux. I have VPN links to some friends computers.
Now that I am home bound with Short Bowel Syndrome I confine my "work" to "computers as a hobby". For those of you that come here from a link please check the web site for my SBS story.

I do have a suggestion for those that want to learn more about computers, sign up for the "LangaList" this is a GREAT PLACE (  http://www.langa.com ) to learn what you should do and how to do it. There is no spam, you will learn a lot, and they have a great library to search when you have a question.
You can sign up here ( http://www.langa.com/newsletter.htm )  for the e-mail list.

Spam or a Virus?

I have people tell me I was sending out Spam, or a Virus in my e-mail. one thing I am definitely against is Spam, and I do not like a Virus in any form. I did have a low-life use my .com address as one of the false addresses for his spam, but I can assure you it was not me sending the e-mail. If you get anything from me that looks like spam it was sent using my domains without my permission. I have filed a complaint with the authorities and will do so for every spammer that sends me e-mail or uses my domain.
As for a Virus, anything is possible. I run an e-mail server and I use the latest Norton software set to automatically update and I use a software (Zone Alarm) firewall. I reject all e-mail attachments, so do not send me one. If you need to write me please use the Feedback Form on this page. The e-mail is checked coming in and going out. It is as clean as I can get it.

While on the subject of Spam...

I average about 150 Spam e-mails everyday that I did not ask for, in addition to loosing one of my domains to some low-life. I also think I know why the Government will not do anything about Spam. Did you notice how many e-messages you received (in addition to the phone calls) during the last election? Here in Florida the Presidents Brother, Governor Bush, was the biggest offender. If a law was passed think of what it would do to all the elected officials.

BUT, What would happen if we took a lesson from the Spammers Handbook?

if we simply set up a list in our e-mail program and forwarded every Spam e-mail we received to every elected official in our State and Federal Government listing, asking them to consider our e-mail a complaint against Spam, and against the Company sending the e-mail.

As long as we put in the statement that we would like them to help us cut down on the number of Spam e-mail's, (like this one), by enacting an Anti-Spam Legislation, I do not see how they could consider we were spamming them, since they are sending us e-mails (Spam style) we did not ask for.
(remember the elected officials always say to write them if you have anything you want to say to them, so be sure to send and complain about the dirty e-mail)

With one quick copy and paste we could put the header info in the forward e-mail, and by putting the list info in the BCC address every official would get it with their e-mail listed as the recipient.

let's see, my 150 everyday would be about 4500 (mo) they would get from me. Last month I had an average of 1600 successful requests PER DAY to the No Guts  home page. If everyone sent 30 Spam e-mail's per day, that would be a total of 1,440,000 plus my 4,500 = 1,444,500 per month, in addition to the e-mail he already receives.

That should be an attention getter for any elected politician that was running for re-election, and make him think twice about Spam e-mail.
(Don't forget the White House.. Remember the newspaper story where the President sent out e-mails (Spam ?) to people that should not have gotten it)

You could even let your ISP know that you would be sending e-mails to your elected officials. This way your ISP will know you are trying to help him out and not sending Spam yourself, otherwise he may question the amount of traffic from your account.

If you are a lawyer how about letting me know what you think of this idea.
Please use the Feed Back Form.

Then again we may overload the Governments antiquated system and shut it down. Would this be considered a DOS (denial of service) attack?
We would be doing to our Elected Officials what the Spammers do to us when they fill up and shut down our e-mail box, and cost us extra money with Junk E-mail.
